How to Apply Bolt Down Plates

Safety-Grip

Bolt down anti-slip plates are an ideal solution for applications where Safety-Grip tape alone is not suitable, i.e. constantly wet, loose or uneven surfaces, such as external wooden surfaces like decking. In this blog, we will guide you on how to install these bolt down anti-slip plates efficiently.

Equipment you will need before we start:

  • Bolt Down Plates
  • Measuring Tape
  • Pencil/Marking Tool
  • Drill
  • Screws

Have these materials to hand to ensure a quick application of Heskins bolt down plates.

Step 1 – Measure Up the Surface Using a Tape Measure

Using your measuring tape, gather the application area’s dimensions to locate where the bolt down plates and screws will go.

Step 2 – Mark Up the Application Area

Mark the middle of the surface with your pencil where your bolt down anti-slip plates will go, giving you an accurate idea of placement.

Step 3- Measure Decking or Steps to Ensure Alignment

Measure the anti-slip plates to see if your marking is accurate, and check that you are happy with the bolt down plate alignment. Next, mark the location where you will install the screws and the safety plate length using the marked middle of the surface for positioning. You will now have a guidance template to help you fit the bolt down plates.

Step 4 – Screw In the Bolt Down Plates

Finally, ensure all markings align with the bolt down plates. Then drill the screws into the surface using your markings as a guide for accuracy. Once you have drilled the screws in, ensure they are all drilled securely, meaning the plate has no movement.

Can I Install Bolt Down Plates on Boats or Ships?

Choosing our stainless steel option of bolt down anti-slip plates is a must when installing them in areas exposed to water and salt frequently. Stainless steel plates have properties such as remaining rust-free. We can also supply you with a suitable non-slip material to ensure slip resistance in these areas.

What Non-Slip Material is on Bolt Down Plates?

We can cover the plates in abrasive or non-abrasive slip-resistant material. We recommend using non-abrasive material if the safety plates will be in contact with bare skin, such as swimming areas or gardens, playgrounds and more. Abrasive material offers grip in areas exposed to mud, snow and ice. There are levels of our abrasive tapes, and the sales team can help find a suitable one for your unique needs.

What are the Benefits of Using Bolt Down Anti-Slip Plates?

You can install them in areas where anti-slip tape alone is unsuitable due to uneven surfaces or extreme weather conditions. Safety treads improve safety in areas by providing a slip-resistant, durable surface thanks to the high-quality materials that make them suitable for harsh weather conditions and environments, including industrial, commercial, and residential settings. The installation process is incredibly easy and can make you compliant with certain regulations and standards set forth by organisations.

How Cost-effective are Bolt Down Anti-Slip Plates Compared to Other Solutions?

You can cover a large surface area with bolt down non-slip plates. They can be a permanent solution on a surface that’s lost its non-slip properties without repurchasing a new set of stairs or resurfacing. Safety plates are quick and easy to install as they can be used immediately compared to the paint alternative.
